नार्यस्तु राष्ट्रस्य श्वः।
nāryastu rāṣṭrasya śvaḥ।
Women are the nation’s future.
नारी राष्ट्र का भविष्य है।
यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते रमन्ते तत्र देवताः।
यत्रैतास्तु न पूज्यन्ते
सर्वास्तत्राफला क्रिया:॥
yatra nāryastu pūjyante ramante tatra devatāḥ।
yatraitāstu na pūjyante sarvāstatrāphalā: kriyā:॥
Where women are honoured, divinity blossoms there.
And where they are Dishonoured, all actions remain unfruitful.
जहां स्त्रियों का आदर होता है, वहां देवता रमण करते हैं ।
जहां उनका का आदर नहीं होती, वहां सब काम निष्फल होते हैं।

Devīmahātmyam 2.13
Background to this verse from Devimahatmyam (The story of Mahishasurmardini) –
Demons and gods have always been in constant fight and gods have always been winning until the rise of Mahishasur. Mahishasur was the son of Rambha (king of demons) and Mahishi. Born with supernatural powers, he thought of doing penance in order to grow stronger and finally defeat gods.
He prayed to Brahma, offered his penance. Brahma grants him a boon that he won’t be killed by any men or gods. Soon he started troubling and suppressing mortals, winning over gods who had great strengths. He began to attack Amaravati, the capital of Indra. The desperate gods closed their eyes and began to concentrate all their thoughts on creating this invincible woman.
From their energies, they created a Goddess who would be strong enough to vanquish Mahishasur. With their blessings,
Durga mounted the tiger and set out to destroy Mahishasur.
As she approached Amravati, she let out a mighty roar
that shook the mountains and created huge waves in the seas. Mahishasur asked his soldiers to find out what was
happening.
The goddess roared, ‘Tell your king that I am no ordinary woman who would be eager to marry him. I am Mahadevi and my husband is Mahadeva. I have come to ask him to leave Amravati and return to his place below the world. If he doesn’t go, I will destroy him!’
Mahishasur attacked the goddess along with an army of Asuras. But Durga immediately created a huge troop of soldiers from her breath to fight back. Mahishasur tried all the tricks he knew. The battle raged for nine days. Finally, the goddess killed the Asura who had taken the form of a huge buffalo. She beheaded him with the Chakra which Vishnu had given her. Thus she freed the world from Mahishasur’s tyranny. Hence the name Mahishasurmardini.
Indra and the other gods returned to the heavens again, and all was well.
